I have had 3 different Nameless Performance exhausts over the years on my 2012 and 2019 Subaru WRX. They made good quality products and the only issue I ever had with them is the cheap exhaust gaskets they include. The gaskets they sent on my 2012 WRX did not have a metal ring around the center hole and over time it turned into a leak. Surprisingly even when I had the Nameless straight pipe track exhaust on my 2012 WRX I was able to pass inspection at my local Subaru dealership twice before I had issues. On the third time, that exhaust leak I mentioned was spotted and at that point they had to tell me I needed a muffler to pass inspection.
The set I have on my 2019 WRX is the Nameless Performance axleback with 5″ mufflers and 3.5″ double walled tips. I actually found mine used 3 years ago when I bought my 2019 WRX since this fits 2015+. The seller listed it as 3″ tips but what came was the 3.5″ which is quite a bit more expensive to buy new.
I’ve had my WRX inspected 3 times with this exhaust on and have not had issues. My understanding is that as long as it isn’t annoyingly loud and has a muffler most places will pass it. Technically I believe the exhaust law in Maine says it needs to be no louder than the stock exhaust and the mufflers need baffles. The baffle is a tube with holes on the sides inside the muffler, or walls inside the muffler – this makes the exhaust a lot quieter. I took a few seconds to poke around in there and I don’t feel anything like a baffle.
I can try to describe how this exhaust setup sounds on an otherwise stock 2019 WRX because videos seems to vary a lot online depending on microphone quality and location. Overall, compared to the stock exhaust it is less boomy, with less drone on the highway and more throaty. It is quiet when you are driving normal and gets much louder when you step on it. You can hear the car coming from down the street much sooner than the stock exhaust. The 2.0 liter engine sounds a little weaker with this exhaust until boost comes on then its a much meaner sound than stock. Overall I like it a lot better than stock mostly because of the less bass sound and the good sounds when you stomp on it.
The other benefit to this exhaust and the lack of baffles is the snap crackles and pops you can get out of it. Ill do another write up on that separately with some instruction and sound samples. Below I will attach some photos of the exhaust and a sound clip.
Some bad autocross driving is a good sound sample as well:
